It has been 47 years since the military junta wrested control of Burma back from a democratically elected government. Why is it that the world continues to do so little about such an appaling human rights situation?
Came across this report in a Washington Post article on Burma by Laura Bush. With North Korea, Polpot, communal riots & tensions the Indian sub-continent, the civil war in Sri Lanka & the Burma Socialist Programme Party as proud parts of Asian history, one wonders why Africa always seems to get more negative publicity.
And of course, lest we forget, back in Europe Bosnia is threatening to break down into depravity once more.
I think it is time for the intelligence & information gathering to lead to a more fruitful cause. I think the time for Nobel Peace Prizes is over. I think we should stop patting ourselves on the back for how socially integrated legitimate society is. Or how soon India will be getting an F1 track. And start socially integrating humanity a little more. The disenfranchised of Jharkhand, of Vidarbha, the women of Myanmar, the moderates of Pakistan, the women & children in refugee camps across the world, the people of Palestine. To name a very few.
